Shia LaBeouf says that he almost got into a “fist fight” with his “mentor” Jon Voight over the pair’s political differences. LaBeouf and Voight, a fervent Donald Trump supporter, starred together in the 2003 family comedy movie Holes, an adaptation of the best-selling coming-of-age novel of the same name, and the 2007 action film Transformers.
In a new documentary about the making of the instantly-infamous Francis Ford Coppola-directed bomb Megalopolis, the troubled former Disney Channel star says that he threatened to fist fight Jon Voight, whom he considers his mentor, over politics.
Voight, 86 years old, has been one of Trump’s most vocal Hollywood supporters since he entered politics in 2015. LaBeouf, on the other hand, has become better known for his volatile personality than his acting skills over the last decade or so.

“He was like my mentor from a young age. He was like the first real actor I ever met, and he’s the first one who put me on to [Dustin] Hoffman’s repertoire… He would sit in a room with me and watch all these movies back to back, and [that] made me fall in love with the process and the craft,” LaBeouf explains in the upcoming MedaDoc, a documentary about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s 2024 film Megalopolis.
“We had a big fight on the phone where I told him I was going to come to his house and we were going to fist fight, and I hung up the phone. Didn’t talk to him for years. I had to go make amends to Voight [before Megalopolis] because Voight’s politics and mine are very different.”
The pair obviously made amends as they were seen arm-in-arm on the red carpet at the premiere of Megalopolis last year. Other than Megalopolis, however, both Voight and LaBeouf have fallen out of mainstream Hollywood in recent years.
