College GameDay has been a staple of Saturday mornings during football season for more than 30 years, and virtually every FBS school has hosted the program at some point. All but three (Maryland, Rutgers, and Virginia) have been featured in a game at the center of the prediction segment that caps off each broadcast, and that honor has been both a gift and a curse for some teams at the center of those marquee showdowns.
With college football (and, in turn, College GameDay) season in full swing, I decided to take a look at which teams have fared the best (and worst) when they’ve been involved in the featured matchup on the show. For the purpose of this list, I’m only considering the programs that have ended up there on at least ten occasions, as there are dozens of others that either posted a win or a loss in their one and only appearance.
These teams have the best record when they’re one of the two squads in the featured matchup on College GameDay
USC: 18-6 (.750)

As things currently stand, no college football team has posted a better record as a member of the featured contest on College GameDay than USC.
The Trojans (who have hosted it 10 times) have been involved on 24 occasions and boast a .750 winning percentage thanks in part to the run where they won all seven games in which they were highlighted in 2004 and 2005 (they also won 15 of 16 College GameDay games between 2004 and 2009).
TCU: 8-3 (.727)

It took TCU a while to get a taste of College GameDay, as the Horned Frogs didn’t end up as part of a featured game until 2009 (which marked the first of their three hosting stints). That also marked the first of six straight wins, although they’re currently riding a two-game skid.
Ohio State: 47-20 (.701)

No school has hosted College GameDay more times than Ohio State, as the episode where Lee Corso donned the headgear for the final time marked the 26th occasion the show has headed to Columbus. The Buckeyes have also been featured more than any other and have more than held their own when that’s the case.
Oklahoma: 27-14 (.659)

This article was published the day before Oklahoma hosted College GameDay for the tenth time, a game that marked the 42nd occasion the Sooners were part of the featured matchup. The Sooners were featured seven times in a two-year span at the start of the millennium while winning all of those contests, which remains their longest winning streak.
Alabama: 39-21 (.650)

Alabama trails only Ohio State when it comes to the number of times it’s hosted and been part of the featured game (60 and 19, respectively). As you can probably guess, the vast majority of both of those appearances came during the Nick Saban Era, and he’s a major reason they’re on this list.
Miami: 16-9 (.640)

We’re capping things off with Miami, which probably would have hosted more times than the eight occasions it has if College GameDay had started hitting the road upon its inception in 1987 as opposed to the mid-1990s.
The Hurricanes are yet another team that managed to rattle off a seven-game winning streak as part of a featured game, and College GameDay has been pretty good to them.
No teams have a worse record as a College GameDay headliner than these programs
Texas A&M: 1-10 (.091)

At this point, it would be fair to say Texas A&M is dealing with a College GameDay curse. Their showdown with Tennessee in 2016 (which was also one of the eight times the school has hosted) is the only time the Aggies have gotten a win, and they’re currently riding a five-game losing streak as a featured team.
Washington: 2-8 (.200)

Washington also got its first College GameDay win in 2016 after losing its first five featured games, and a victory over Oregon in 2023 is the only other time the Huskies have managed to earn a victory (both of which occurred during the three times the show has headed to Seattle).
Virginia Tech: 4-10 (.286)

Virginia Tech won the first two College GameDay showdowns where the team was featured in 1999, but it’s been largely downhill since the Hokies lost to Florida State in the national championship game that season; they’ve lost the last five times and haven’t gotten a win since hosting in 2007.
South Carolina: 3-7 (.300)

There are two teams that have gone 3-7 as a featured squad on College GameDay. The first is South Carolina, which has hosted eight times but struggled to get things clicking when it’s been thrust into the spotlight.
UCLA: 3-7 (.300)

UCLA, which has only hosted College GameDay a couple of times, has also had some trouble rising to the occasion. The Golden Bears have a 1-1 record when welcoming the show to campus but have folded on the big stage more often than not.
Wisconsin: 7-13 (.350)

We’re capping things off with Wisconsin, which lost the first three times it was featured on College GameDay and hasn’t really been able to turn things around when the Badgers are at the center of a show the school has hosted eight times.
