UFC legend Wanderlei Silva has revealed his disfigured face after being knocked out cold during a wild 11-person post-fight melee on Saturday. The 49-year-old suffered the injuries during and after his boxing match against Acelino “Popo” Freitas in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Spaten Fight Night 2.

Wanderlei Silva was disqualified in the fourth round after head butting Freitas at least twice during the exhibition boxing match on Saturday night. Freitas, a former world champion who retired from professional boxing in 2017 with a record of 41-2 (34 KOs), had reportedly been dominating the fight up until the disqualification. Following the DQ, a giant brawl broke out and the former MMA superstar was left unconscious on the mat.

“Everyone saw the footage. Popo’s team invaded the ring after the result. They came at us, gave us the finger, and cursed us, as they had been doing all week,” Silva said in a video on Instagram after the fight. “I never attacked anyone; I was there separating them, and suddenly, I was punched in the back of the head, then punched in the eye again, and I was cowardly attacked. As you can see, my eye is still bleeding, and I have a terrible headache. I thought it was a very sad act.”

Acelino Freitas had a slightly different take

“When the fight ended, the referee disqualified Wanderlei for the three head butts he hit me, and his coach went after me and punched me; he really hurt me,” Freitas said on social media. “Wanderlei, the fight was between you and me and had nothing to do with the team. If you head butted me, cool, I don’t care. But, unfortunately, [Fabricio] Werdum cowardly entered the ring with your son and went all over everybody.”

Freitas added, “We tried delivering you a perfect [show] and I end up beat by his coach out of nowhere. Another guy tried to rear-naked choke me, almost chokes me out. I’d like to apologize to Ambev and Spaten. But I’m telling you, we had no fault. Cowardly, it was his team. And I don’t know why they put Werdum in this event. This guy only does s— in other people’s events.”

Fabricio Werdum, of course, disagreed with Freitas

“Everybody saw what happened. We were in there, Dida, Thor, and I, and we entered the ring when it was all over, and Wanderlei was disqualified, and a lot of people entered from Popo’s side,” he wrote. “I think it was 20 of them, and only me, Wanderlei, Thor, and Dida. We were reacting to their attacks.”

Regardless of who was at fault, Wanderlei Silva ended up out cold on the canvas when all was said and done.

As it turned out, the man who knocked Silva out was none other than Acelino Freitas’ son, Rafael. “In the heat of the moment, I only thought about defending my family,” he stated.

Wanderlei Silva reveals the beating he took

On Monday, Wanderlei Silva shared a video on social media that shows how badly his face was damaged during the fight and ensuing brawl.

“Thank you all very much for your messages, I’m not feeling very well, with a lot of dizziness and a headache that just won’t go away, this week I will do more detailed exams to find out if I had any more serious trauma in the head!” Wanderlei Silva wrote in the caption to the video.
