Daniel Cormier Says Magomed Ankalaev’s Making Excuses For Alex Pereira Loss Don’t Matter

Former light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev lost his title in stunning fashion with a first-round TKO loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 320.

Ankalaev, who had previously defeated Pereira via unanimous decision to win the belt at UFC 313, had a valid reason for the less-than-impressive showing, however.

According to MMA reporter Leo Guimares, Ankalaev was fighting with a recently repaired broken rib that he had fixed with a month of the fight.

After the loss, Akalaev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz took to Instagram to say that his Ankalaev should have never even stepped into the cage for the fight at UFC 320.

There’s a lot of things happened with Ankalaev in his camp,” Abdelaziz wrote. “But, it’s for him to talk about. Not me. And if I need to talk about it, I will talk about it. If it was up to me, he should never have fought due to some things. But he’s a grown man, he makes his own decisions, and he lives by his actions.”

Daniel Cormier Doesn’t Want To Hear Magomed Ankalaev’s Excuses

Listen, if Ankalaev was truly fighting with a recently repaired broken rib – and the video from Guimares is hard to dispute – then he has a relatively valid excuse.

However, former UFC champion turned commentator Daniel Cormier doesn’t want to hear it.

“I don’t know if the result changes if he was healthy, because of the way Pereira fought him,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “I know some people that are very close to Magomed Ankalaev that said for him not to fight. He wanted to fight. He wanted to go out there and beat Pereira again because he understood how important it was to have a victory over Alex, and two would have been an even stronger statement as to why he is who he is.

“So he was not at 100 percent, but I don’t know if he was at 120 percent if he would have beaten Pereira on that night”

The good news is, we’ll probably get to find out. A third and decisive fight between the two UFC stars seemingly makes way too much sense not to book it. And hopefully, we’ll finally learn what happens when both fighters step into the cage at 100 percent.
