Cincinnati Students Disrespect BYU With Explicit Anti-Mormon Chant Despite Charitable Gestures

Cincinnati BYU Fans Students Anti-Mormon Chant

Students at the University of Cincinnati showed the utmost disrespect to BYU with an explicit anti-Mormon chant during the college football game on Saturday night. The Cougars got the last laugh.

Not only did the visiting fanbase provide the local food bank with more than 25,000 pounds of food, it completely took over the stadium and their team won the game.

The Bearcats are likely to receive a heft fine for their inappropriate behavior after the Big 12 set a precedent earlier in the college football season. This kind of thing cannot happen in sports or society.

BYU fans completely took over Nippert Stadium.

There are very few fanbases in the country who are more passionate than BYU. They are also the most kind.

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson once described the environment in Provo as “weird” because the Cougars were so nice to him before, during and after the road game at Lavell-Edwards Stadium. BYU fans also distribute free ice cream and other sweet treats to the visiting section during games.

However, it is their charitable efforts that really make them stand out.

Cougars fans flooded Texas Tech’s team barber with donations after his wife was hit by a drunk driver earlier this month. They donated more than 25,000 pounds of food to Cincinnati’s on-campus pantry ahead of this weekend’s away game in Ohio. It was the single largest donation in the pantry’s history!

That donation was in addition to their contribution to the coat drive at the tailgate on Saturday.

And then they completely took over the stadium. There was just as much blue as black and red in the crowd at Nippert Stadium— if not more.

BYU made it feel like a home game.

You could really see just how many Cougars made the trip from Provo after the Bearcats had cleared out.

And to make the trip that much sweeter, BYU beat Cincinnati by 12 to move to 10-1 on the season.

Cincinnati fans students used hateful rhetoric against the Mormon religion.

Unfortunately, at some point during the second quarter, the Bearcats student section broke out into an explicit anti-religion chant. They yelled “F— the Mormons.”

This is not the first time we have seen an opposing fanbase use this kind of language against the Cougars. It might’ve cost Oregon a chance to land a top recruit in 2022. Providence administrators had to beg students to stop the same chant during a basketball game last December. Arizona fans did the same during a basketball game in February.

The most recent incident took place at Colorado back in September. The Big 12 levied a public reprimand and a fine of $50,000 against the Buffaloes in accordance with the conference’s zero-tolerance policy.

Cincinnati will presumably receive the same punishment in coming days.
