Baylor handed Creighton a loss on Monday in a Players Era Festival showdown where the Bears warded off a comeback to keep their undefeated record intact. A foul call that went against the Bluejays in the closing minutes didn’t end up having a huge impact on the game, but it did cause one of their radio guys to go on a rant for the ages over the weak whistle.

18 men’s basketball teams (and four on the women’s side) headed to Las Vegas this week for the second iteration of the Players Era Festival, which offered the participating schools some extra incentive to make the trek with a $20 million prize pool used to support name, image, and likeness deals.

That includes Creighton, which arrived in Sin City with a 3-1 record before meeting a 3-0 Baylor squad on the court at Michelob ULTRA Arena on Monday afternoon.

The Bears earned an 81-74 win on the back of the game-high 21-point performance from Cameron Carr. One of those points came after a missed dunk that drew a foul call with around two minutes to go, and the guy doing the play-by-play for the Creighton radio broadcast was not thrilled with that development based on an apoplectic meltdown that went viral.

Creighton radio announcer John Bishop erupted over a weak foul call in their game against Baylor

Baylor led for the entirety of the first half and entered the locker room with a 44-36 lead. However, Creighton was able to claw back after coming back out onto the court, and the two teams were knotted up at 62 points apiece with around eight and a half minutes left in the contest.

However, Baylor proceeded to go on an 8-0 run before their opponents stopped the bleeding, and they were up by six when Carr was sent to the free-throw line following a missed dunk that drew an incredibly suspect blocking foul on Blake Harper.

Harper was clearly outside of the restricted zone and appeared to be firmly set when Carr went up for the dunk—two realities that Creighton play-by-play guy John Bishop pointed out while absolutely losing his mind on the radio over the “horse crap” call that led to him labeling Bret Smith “an incompetent referee.”

We were treated to a “Ball Don’t Lie” moment after Carr missed the first free throw, although he drained the second to give Baylor a 73-68 lead.

He had a successful dunk around a minute later that essentially served as the nail in the coffin while extending Creighton’s deficit to seven, so while the foul may not have been that consequential in the grand scheme of things, I can’t really blame Bishop for exploding.
