South Alabama Football Player Ditched His Sixth School In Six Years Just SECONDS After Final Game

Nehemiah Chandler Transfer Portal South Alabama Announcement Timing

South Alabama defensive back Nehemiah Chandler is going to enter the transfer portal, again. His decision was announced less than one minute after the final game of the college football regular season ended.

It was within seconds. Literally.

Needless to say, Chandler planned his eventual departure from the program long before the last college football game of his redshirt freshman year. He is ready to get the heck out of Mobile.

Who is Nehemiah Chandler?

Chandler played at four different Florida high schools in four years. He started at Westside High School in Jacksonville as a freshman, played at Godby High School in Tallahassee as a sophomore and Munroe High School as a junior, and then closed things out at Wakulla High School as a senior.

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Chandler was rated as a three-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2024. The No. 81-ranked cornerback received eight scholarship offers from UAB, Liberty, Maryland, Georgia Tech, South Florida, UCF, Florida A&M and Middle Tennessee.

He ultimately chose to play for the Yellow Jackets.

However, Chandler saw action in only one game as a true freshman at Georgia Tech. Nehemiah Chandler ultimately entered the transfer portal in April and flipped to South Alabama after originally committing to App State. He made 31 total tackles (22 solo) with 13 pass deflections and two interceptions in 2025 but the Jaguars won only four games.

It was a disappointing year for a program that was just three years removed from the best season in program history on the heels of back-to-back seven-win seasons. It was an extremely strong breakout year for one of the best defensive backs in the country.

Back to the transfer portal!

Now a rising redshirt sophomore, Chandler decided to re-enter the transfer portal in search of a new home for the second year in a row. It will be his seventh different school in seven years.

His opportunity to transfer back up to the P6 level is extremely well earned and well deserved but the timing of his announcement (through Hayes Fawcett) was absolutely wild.

South Alabama lost to Texas State by a final score of 49-26 on Saturday night. The game ended at exactly 5:23 p.m. CT on the dot. No sooner, no later. The game clock hit zero as the time clock read 5:23.

Fawcett posted the transfer portal announcement on Nehemiah Chandler’s behalf at… exactly 5:23 p.m CT. No sooner, no later.

It’s almost as if Chandler informed Fawcett of his plans to enter the transfer portal in advance (he did) and Fawcett waited until the exact second the game was over to hit post (he did). The body wasn’t even cold!

I don’t know what this says about the Jaguars or Chandler, if anything, but I cannot recall a time where this has happened before. Transfer portal announcements have been made within a few minutes of a game ending, sure. Never have I seen an announcement go live in the exact minute it was over. Wild.
