Three-star high school quarterback Trey Wright committed to USC over the weekend. He will leave the state of Texas to suit up for Lincoln Riley.
Kyler Murray sent the signal caller a message after making that pledge public. He commended Wright for his decision despite his holding an offer from Oklahoma.
Murray played two seasons for the Sooners after transferring from Texas A&M. He won the Heisman trophy in 2018 before becoming the No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick the following April.
Wright hopes to see a similar output under Riley’s guidance. He received well-wishes after his choice to spurn Murray’s former school.

Wright is an accomplished passer from Frisco Lone Star High School in Texas. He threw for 4,000 yards as a sophomore to go along with 1,764 rushing yards and 54 combined touchdowns.
That production helped his team reach the 5A-I state championship game. It’s also made him one of the top recruits in the 2028 class.
The quarterback is ranked as a Top 25 player at his position. That rating could continue to improve with strong junior and senior years. USC believes they are getting a playmaker with his commitment.
Wright has insane athleticism. At just 5-10, he’s a star on both the gridiron and the hardwood. Here he is showing off some ridiculous hops to dunk over a much taller defender during a basketball game.
The frame and physical attributes have drawn comparisons to Kyler Murray. The NFL passer offered words of encouragement as Wright sets sights on the next level.

Wright is from Texas. He held an offer from Oklahoma, though it does not appear the Sooners were seriously in the mix for his commitment.
The passer ultimately chose USC over Oregon, Kentucky, Arizona, and SMU.
Oklahoma does already hold a commitment from 2028 QB Trey Tagliaferri, who boasts a similar recruiting ranking.
Riley, of course, famously bailed on Oklahoma to move to sunny Los Angeles in 2021. He took with him a slew of Sooners to include eventual Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams.
OU struggled in its first year after the transition, going 6-7 with Brent Venables. Results have been somewhat mixed under the new staff with a pair of six-win campaigns accompanying two 10-3 seasons.
Riley, meanwhile, has gone 35-18 across four seasons with the Trojans. We’ll see if Trey Wright’s commitment to USC helps him get over the hump.
