Rideshare apps have become ubiquitous. As a result, many popular destinations have needed to adjust to accommodate them.
For example, it used to be common for airports to have a singular spot for taxi pickup. Now, many airports have separate spots for taxi pickup and rideshare pickup.
The same can be said about theme parks like Walt Disney World. However, as one Lyft driver recently shared, the security rules around these parks can be confusing.
What’s The Deal With Disney World And Rideshare Drivers?
In a video posted to TikTok, Lyft driver @insidetheropestraveltv explains that he’s about to start his day driving through Walt Disney World for Lyft. As he prepares, he recalls something he noticed while working in the park the previous night.
“Some of the different Disney resorts…like, when you’re checking in and stuff—I’ve noticed that different resorts have different ways of getting in,” he starts.
These differences mainly boil down to security procedures required for entry, the TikToker explains.
“Some of them will ask for my driver’s license—actually, the majority of them will,” he shares. “And then some, when I’m going to drop off a passenger, will just kind of take our word for it.”
The TikToker says he finds this inconsistency “interesting.” Still, he notes that this inconsistency is relatively common across various resorts.
“Sometimes they just let you through, and other times they want to see the driver’s license, write everything down,” he states. “And then other times, they want to talk to the passenger and kind of see what their reservations are, or if they have dining reservations.”
Is There A Standard Security Procedure For Disney And Rideshare Drivers?
On the Walt Disney World website, the company notes that it “does not broadly discuss the specifics of our security procedures to avoid compromising their effectiveness.” As such, it’s difficult to establish a standard procedure for rideshare drivers.
That said, other internet users have noted the same inconsistency observed by the TikToker.
To start, it should be noted that every Disney park has a set rideshare drop-off location. However, as the TikToker explains, each park appears to have different security procedures.
For example, planDisney notes that, regardless of the park, rideshare drivers are typically asked for their ID upon entering.
Other internet users say that they’ve been asked for more. Some claim that a simple scan of their Disney MagicBand was enough to gain entry. Others state that they were asked to provide details about reservations, including names or details about a stay. More still claimed that all that was needed was a stated reason for a visit.
If a driver does not meet this standard, some users claim that they will be turned away and prevented from dropping off customers.
Commenters Say It’s Common
In short, how rideshare works at Walt Disney World appears to vary considerably. That said, as long as one has a legitimate reason for visiting the park and evidence to show this is the case, they will likely not face any issues visiting the park using rideshare like Lyft.
Commenters under the TikToker’s video noted that this inconsistency is fairly common in the industry.
“Disney World security is hit and miss. I always show my DL but after that it can be anything from waving me thru to asking me to put down my back window, to asking the passengers for ID or just their name, etc.,” said a user.
“Every security [at] hotels have different way of doing things checkins,” offered another.
