Chaz Coleman NIL Deal Money Instagram Skip Tennessee Football Workouts Return

Chaz Coleman likely got paid a large amount of money to play college football at Tennessee. However, the Penn State transfer is not so sure that he wants to play college football at Tennessee after all.

Not only was he homesick, he is reportedly dealing with vertigo and other mental health-related issues.

Should the college football player choose not to play college football for the Volunteers, the school could decide to go after him for money he did not earn by playing. We are not to that point… yet!

Chaz Coleman deleted his social media after flexing his money.

CBS Sports reported that Chaz Coleman signed a financial agreement worth ~$2 million upon his arrival to Tennessee. Neither the university nor its third-party collectives released details of his NIL deal so we don’t know the exact dollar amount or the length of his commitment but it was not cheap.

With that in mind, the former four-star recruit posted a series of photos to his Instagram story on May 10. The images showed him holding a large stack of cash. All of the featured bills appeared to be $100 bills.

Coleman has since deleted his social media account. He also failed to show up to practice.

According to Brent Hubbs, the prized defensive end transfer has been MIA since early April and missed his deadline on Wednesday. Tennessee began voluntary workouts last week. Coleman was not there.

Now, to be completely fair, the workouts were voluntary and head coach Josh Huepel stood by him.

“Chaz has been dealing with some things, and we’re here to support him. We’ll continue to go through that process.”

Hubbs provided additional context at the beginning of May. The homesickness is not as big of an issue for Coleman as the lingering mental health issues that stem from a past injury.

Tennessee’s star football transfer is back on Rocky Top.

The University of Tennessee finished its spring semester during the second full week of May. Players finished up their classes, took their finals and went home for the summer. They were asked to return to campus for summer workouts earlier this week but they were not required to do so.

Chaz Coleman was not there. He is now.

According to Hubbs, “Tennessee football transfer defensive end Chaz Coleman returned to Knoxville on Friday afternoon.” His future with the program “remains unclear.”

I do not know the exact terms of Coleman’s agreement with the Volunteers (and/or their third-party collective) but this uncertainty puts him at risk of financial penalty. Oregon is actively suing a player who transferred to Oklahoma and did not pay back the money that was provided to him by the Ducks. FAU recently filed a lawsuit against four former players who also took money from the program before they left. Tennessee’s star transfer is now in a similar position.

Maybe Chaz Coleman will join his teammates for workouts next week and blossom into a massive star for the Volunteers in the spring. If not, and he doesn’t play, Tennessee could go after him for all or some of the money he flexed on his Instagram story. We’ll see what happens. It could get litigious.
