A 45-minute high-speed police chase across Los Angeles had an unexpected pit stop when the suspect stopped for gas in the middle of the pursuit.
While the driver of the maroon Dodge Charger with blacked-out windows reached a speed of 130 miles per hour in an effort to get away from the cops, he wasn’t in too big of a hurry to ditch his car when it apparently started getting low on gas.
The pursuit, which went from the West Valley to Pasadena on Sunday night, went on for so long and reached such high speeds that at various points during the chase, a KABC News helicopter actually lost sight of the Dodge Charger.
The suspect, believed to be wanted for possible DUI, drove through parts of Mission Hills, Elysian Park and Montrose, sometimes without headlights, before ending up in Pasadena.
It was in Pasadena, near the intersection of Del Monte Street and Forest Avenue, where the driver and two passengers ran from the Charger and tried to escape police on foot. The police eventually took all three of them into custody.
The chase brought back memories of another similar police pursuit
In August of 2025, a driver in a stolen vehicle stopped to get gas in the midst of leading police on a high-speed chase through the Los Angeles area.
Just like in Sunday’s chase, the driver of the dark blue Infinity 250 sedan traveled at speeds up to 100 mph at times and, yep, they too stopped to fill up the car’s gas tank mid-pursuit.
In that case, the suspect looked right into the KABC News helicopter’s camera as he covered his face while pumping gas at a Shell gas station at Imperial Highway and Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood.
The chase ended when the suspect bailed out of the car and took off on foot. However, unlike Sunday’s pursuit, police believe another driver picked him up or he possibly carjacked another driver in an SUV and got away.
