When you work in sports media, it’s rare that you see something happen in sports that you’ve never seen before.
Philadelphia Eagles superstar Saquon Barkley is the exception to that rule. Dating back to his time at Penn State, Barkley has routinely made plays that were seemingly impossible for a mere mortal.
He added to his incredible highlight reel again last Sunday when he hurdled over Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones while facing backward.

Barkley’s remarkable athletic feat drew incredible reactions from everyone watching, including his teammates.
But perhaps it was too good of a play, because Barkley revealed on the Air It Out podcast that the NFL drug tested him immediately after the Eagles’ 28-23 victory.

After revealing that he was drug tested, Barkley also said that the play was more or less an accident.
“So, when I spun, I went to spin again, and I just — it’s probably gonan take away from how cool the play is — I really thought was going low, so I was like ‘I’ma be cool if I just jump up’ but my body just kind of took over.”
There are maybe five players in the NFL that can do what Barkley did on Sunday. Maybe. But for him to come out and say that it wasn’t even a conscious decision to hurdle makes it all the more insane.
Even Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was at a loss for words.
“It was the best play I’ve ever seen,” Sirianni said. “What I think is so cool, there’s going to be kids all over the country and all over Philadelphia trying to make that play and talking about that play and simulating that play as they play backyard football or peewee football. They ain’t going to be able to make it — I believe he’s the only one in the world that can do that. I’m speechless. It was unbelievable.”
Saquon Barkley is a generational running back talent. And we should all consider ourselves lucky that he now plies his trade on a team that allows him to display that week in and week out.
