Robot dogs have apparently now been added to arsenal of tools being used by the United States Secret Service as they were filmed patrolling the grounds of Mar-A-Lago in Flordia following Donald Trump’s win in the 2024 Presidential election.
This is just the latest addition of robot dogs to law enforcement in the United States. Just last month, the Los Angeles Police Department announced it would be using them for counterterrorism and special operations. They are also once again being used by police in New York City after being shelved following backlash over them being creepy, alienating and dystopian.
The addition of robot dogs to the Secret Service patrols of Mar-A-Lago are just part of the heightened security measures that have taken effect there since Donald Trump’s win.
As video of the property shows, armored Coast Guard boats are also patrolling the waters around the Trump estate.
TMZ reports that a Secret Service source said the robot dogs patrolling the Trump property are “equipped with surveillance technology and a ton of sensors to beef up their protective operations.”
These particular robot dogs are reportedly operated by a user, much like with a drone, so there is no chance of them going rogue.
Last year, a company named Throwflame announced it had created and was selling flamethrower-wielding robot dogs.
Some companies have even figured out how to retrofit robot dogs with rocket launchers and assault rifles.
Robot dogs have also over the past year been shown to be very adept at conquering obstacle courses using artificial intelligence. They have also learned how to open various doors with their front legs and broken the world speed record for the fastest 100 meters.
However, they do still have their limitations.
While police in Massachusetts praised a robot dog for taking bullets during a standoff with an armed suspect last March, they still can’t run as fast as many humans and, unless they’ve been updated, are laughably easy to disable.
