New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is opening up about his Daddy issues. In his upcoming Netflix documentary, which chronicles his experience (among other things) tripping on Ayahuasca, the 41-year-old essentially blames his father on the shortcomings in his personality, particularly his “stunted emotional intelligence.”
Aaron Rodgers’ strained relationship with his family has been widely reported on for years, and in his documentary Enigma, Rodgers tells the Netflix camera crews that his father’s lack of emotionality led to him having “some stunted emotional intelligence.”
Rodgers not only has a difficult relationship with his family but also is not married and has no children.
“I think I saw my dad cry when my grandfather passed. And that might have been it. There wasn’t space for emotion, so I definitely had some stunted emotional intelligence,” the 41-year-old says in the upcoming Netflix documentary series Aaron Rodgers: Enigma.
“I think part of the real joy in this work, is, there is such a feminine spirit to ayahuasca,” Rodgers also says.
Over the weekend, Rodgers put forth one of his best performances as a Jet, as he completed 16 of his 30 pass attempts for 289 yards and three touchdowns in Gang Green’s 32-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
198 of those yards and two of the touchdowns went to Rodgers’ old pal Davante Adams as the pair showcased the connection that made them one of the most dangerous duos in the league over the previous decade.
Rodgers’ future with the Jets heading into 2025 is unclear. While the future Hall of Famer has expressed an interested in returning to the team, he hasn’t yet fully committed to playing next season, while reports indicate that the Jets likely don’t want him back, either.
In their final three games of the 2024 season, which will see the Jets’ miserable American professional sports-leading playoff drought extend to 14 seasons, Rodgers and the rest of Gang Green will face off against the Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins.
Aaron Rodgers: Enigma will begin streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, December 17.
