Doug Gottlieb added a new player to his Green Bay basketball team this week in the form of 23-year-old freshman Yonatan Levy. Levy had previously competed at the top level in Israel. He received NCAA approval to play last month.
News of the addition went public on Thursday. Levy’s already on campus and saw action in his first Phoenix game that same day.

In a loss to Wright State, Levy scored five points on 2-of-10 shooting. The 6-9 forward played 22 minutes in that debut while bringing down six boards and dishing out a pair of assists.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get the Phoenix a win. Still, Levy should be a valuable replacement for a recent loss.
In the Israeli Basketball Premiere League last year, he averaged 4.2 points and 4.6 rebounds a night for his Hapoel Eilat squad. He’ll look to add both production and experience despite boasting that freshman tag.
Doug Gottlieb added Yonatan Levy after losing Isaiah Miranda.
Miranda is a 7-1 center who was once viewed as an NBA lottery pick. Unfortunately, he’s since hopped schools with Green Bay being his third program following short stints at Oklahoma State and NC State.
Gottlieb signed the big man this offseason with hopes of utilizing his incredible blend of size and athleticism. Instead, the relationship quickly soured.
Miranda landed a technical foul in a December loss to Michigan Tech. He threw a tirade on the sidelines soon thereafter. He was then mysteriously out of the program two weeks later. The reasoning behind that exit is unknown. Doug Gottlieb failed to elaborate after the fact.
“Let me just get through the process before we speak,” he said in his postgame presser. That response came after a near 20-second pause at the podium.
It’s still unclear who decided on the departure. It certainly didn’t take Gottlieb long to find his replacement, though. Yonatan Levy will do his best to fill the shoes of Isaiah Miranda over the remainder of the year. With this most recent loss, the Phoenix fell to 2-14 on the season.
