Former Alabama Star Bo Scarbrough Slams RB Justice Haynes For Transferring To Michigan

Alabama running back Justice Haynes

Justice Haynes was once considered the next one in a long line of great running backs for the Alabama Crimson Tide. But two years later, Haynes is on the way out the door after an underwhelming stay in Tuscaloosa and is hoping to reignite his career with the Michigan Wolverines.

Haynes was solid in limited action for the Tide this year, carrying the ball 79 times for for 448 yards and seven touchdowns. But he split time with teammate Jam Miller, who got nearly double the amount of carries. Now former Bama running back Bo Scarbrough, who one a pair of national titles in 2015 and 2017, is calling out the one-time future star.

“Aye guy did all that talking about the bama standard then turn your back on us when yu ain’t producing,”he wrote under an Instagram post announcing Haynes’ transfer to Michigan.

Prior to the 2024 season, Haynes discussed taking on a leadership role with the Crimson Tide.

““I’m very comfortable stepping into a leadership role,” he said. “I had really good leaders in my room last year as far as Jase McClellan and Roydell [Williams] that taught me the way, taught me the Bama standard. They passed the torch on. They’re gone now, so now it’s up to Jam [Miller] and I to uphold the standard in the running back room. Just as a whole, as an older kid growing up in the program, I saw the Coach Saban way. Just carrying on that legacy and incorporating Coach DeBoer’s new philosophies — just keeping this thing rolling.”

So Scarbrough does have a point in that sense. But it’s hard to say Haynes didn’t produce when he averaged 5.7 yards per carry. For comparison’s sake, Arizona State star Cam Skattebo averaged 5.8 yards per carry this season (albeit on a much larger workload).

In the end, it just sort of comes across as sour grapes from Scarbrough.
