Nate Oats was not pleased with the performance of his college basketball team during a loss to Missouri on Wednesday night. The Alabama head coach picked up a technical foul for smashing his clipboard into a bunch of little pieces.

One such piece traveled more than 22 feet!

Oats has the Crimson Tide in great position to earn a top-two seed in the NCAA Tournament as the fourth-ranked team in college basketball through 26 games. However, the SEC is an absolute grind and no win is guaranteed— except for maybe South Carolina. I digress.

Any team in the Southeastern Conference can win on any given night. Rankings don’t matter.

No. 4 Alabama traveled to Columbia on Wednesday and lost to No. 15 Missouri by 12, 110-98. The Tigers shot more than 60% from the field and won the game with six less turnovers and 11 less fouls. Oats was furious with how his team played during the first half, which presented a 13-point deficit at halftime.

The 50-year-old head coach was handed his clipboard by an assistant with just over five minutes left. He punched the clipboard out of his own hand, which caused it to shatter across the hardwood.

Nate Oats picked up a technical for the clipboard smash. Pieces of the clipboard flew all over the court and reached as far as the baseline— more than 22 feet away!

Missouri fans were not the only ones to get a kick out of Nate Oats’ meltdown. Neville Arena, home to the Auburn Tigers, showed the replay on the videoboard to a loud chorus of oohs and aahs.

Although Oats’ clipboard smash did not impact the final score, it did not help to rally his team like he might’ve hoped. Alabama rallied back to win the second half but lost.
