Elliot Cadeau and North Carolina have not had the success that they expected during the 2024-25 college basketball season. The Tar Heels, as of this writing, are on the wrong side of the March Madness bubble looking in and will need to make a run over the next two weeks to get back in.
Ridiculous three-point shots from its point guard will not help.
Cadeau, a former five-star prospect in the college basketball recruiting Class of 2023, averages 10 points per game on 44.8% shooting. However, his three-point percentage is significantly worse. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore hit less than 20% from deep as a freshman and only 31% this year.
It is to the point that North Carolina’s opponents do not even acknowledge his (in)ability to knock down triples. Florida State showed him the utmost disrespect on Monday night by not playing any defense. Literally zero.
Cadeau actually improved his numbers for the season by making two of his six three-pointers in an 11-point win over a bad team but that does not mean it wasn’t ugly. And that might be understated.
At one point during the second half, the Seminoles left Elliot Cadeau wide open from beyond the arc on back-to-back shots. They didn’t even try guard him. The closest defender was… waiting for the rebound in the paint! And sure enough, he missed both.

For a five-star guard to be treated like a gangly, incompetent center is a tough look. You don’t have to shoot threes to be a successful player in college basketball but if you are getting left that open and still choose to shoot, one of them has to fall. Or maybe stop taking those shots all together.
Defenses aren’t even giving Elliot Cadeau the time of day so he needs to figure something out!
