Shilo Sanders was in Boulder this weekend to take part in Colorado’s pro day event ahead of the NFL Draft. He lost a sizeable bet with his dad, Deion.
The father-son duo made things interesting before the safety showcased his talents to professional scouts. Shilo Sanders lost that wager on Friday afternoon.
Deion Sanders Jr. posted the interaction on his Well Off Media YouTube page in March. “If you run a 4.4… I’ll buy you a new car,” the caption to the clip read.
Deion Sanders ran a 4.27 40-yard dash at the 1989 NFL Combine. His son questioned that performance in a lighthearted conversation.
“There’s no video of you running [a 40-yard dash],” said Shilo Sanders. “I’ve never talked to anyone that’s seen it… We’ve seen Muhammad Ali box, but I haven’t seen you run a forty. I’ve seen a man land on the moon, but I’ve never seen you run a forty. I’ve seen videos of Malcom X, but I haven’t seen you run a forty.”
Coach Prime shook off the doubt while challenging his son. On Friday, Sanders got his opportunity to prove his dad wrong.

Unfortunately, he came up just shy of the 4.4 time. Shilo Sanders posted times of 4.52 and 4.59 in his 40-yard dash drills. He will not be getting those new wheels.
Those times are unofficial, and his brother, Bucky, disputed the validity of the readings. He insists that the 40-yard dash did fall in the 4.4 range. We’ll see if it makes a difference to his dad.
Sanders is an interesting prospect in the upcoming draft class. He’s flashed his abilities as a strong run defender on the backend of the secondary, but inconsistency and injury concerns have stunted his professional stock.
Deion Sanders believes his son will ultimately hear his name called in the NFL Draft. He’s currently tabbed as a potential late round pick after racking up 137 tackles with the Buffs over the last two seasons.
The bet wasn’t the only car-related drama surrounding the safety ahead of draft day. His dad spoke out on that most recent headline, too.
Mercedes-Benz is trying to seize Shilo Sanders’ $135,000 car.
Sanders reportedly stopped making payments on his vehicle. The luxury car company took action in April. Deion Sanders commented on the situation Friday.
“I know some other bulljunk came out, but he fulfilled all his financial obligations. These issues appear to have risen due to disruptions in the payment process − this is from his attorney − ‘following the termination of Mr. Sanders’ online account access.’ So he’s good.”

The coach says his son was locked out of his account resulting in the missed payments. The issue has since been resolved according to Deion Sanders.
The problem stems from a bankruptcy filing from 2023. That case involves an incident in 2015 in which a former school employee accused a 15-year-old Sanders of elbowing and punching him over a confiscated cell phone, causing serious injury.
The employee sued. An $11.89 million judgement was issued after the safety failed to show at court.
The family has continued to shrug off the accusations, calling Shilo Sanders’ actions an act of self-defense. His father attempted to clear the air on the drama that’s ensued.
Sanders is hoping to put the issue behind him and look ahead to the NFL Draft at the end of the month.
