Travis Perry has found a new home in the SEC after leaving the University of Kentucky. The guard will play for Ole Miss in 2025.

Perry announced his transfer decision over the weekend after spending two weeks in the portal. He’ll provide the Rebels a scoring threat in Oxford next year.

Head coach Chris Beard was high on Perry during his initial recruitment. The state of Kentucky’s all-time leading high school scorer, he spurned the Rebs to play for the hometown Wildcats the first time around.

In Year 1, the guard averaged 2.7 points per contest across 31 appearances. The former four-star recruit made four starts as a freshman but spent the majority of his time in a reserve role.

His decision to leave Lexington came as a shock to many around the program. Questions about a forced exit quickly emerged on social media.

Mark Pope rebuilt the Kentucky basketball roster this offseason with the help of a $12 million NIL budget. A slew of four- and five-star transfers were signed, with a few of those incoming contributors being positioned in the backcourt.

While speculation swirled that Perry was forced out to create more room on the roster, the more likely reason for his transfer came down to playing time.

Travis Perry would’ve likely been buried on the depth chart given the Wildcats’ incoming talent. He chose to move onto a program that offered a larger role.

Ole Miss lost 10 players from last year’s NCAA Tournament team. Perry will now fill one of those voids.

“I love Travis,” said Chris Beard. “He’s one of those guys that’s addicted to basketball… I enjoyed recruiting him.”

Travis Perry didn’t get the opportunity he’d hoped for at Kentucky. He’s expecting to be a major player at Ole Miss. The guard might make a return trip to Lexington in the 2025-26 basketball season. The Rebels hosted the Wildcats last year in Oxford.
