Despite a seemingly unprecedented amount of hype, the 2024 NFL season didn’t go according to plan for Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. The top pick in the draft struggled mightily and Chicago lost 10 of its last 11 games, firing head coach Matt Eberflus along the way.
This year, Williams vows things will be different after placing the blame for his struggles at the feet of Eberflus and former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. But videos from Bears training camp don’t exactly instill much confidence.

Caleb Williams Doesn’t Seem To Have Improved His Accuracy In The Offseason
The first video, which was posted from Chicago’s team account, shows Williams throwing high and wide of receiver DJ Moore, who went up to make an impressive catch.
“That’s….not the video I’d choose if you wanna get people hyped up for Caleb Williams this season,” one fan wrote in response to the video.
“I know it’s July..but is Caleb throwing bad balls on out routes?!” asked another.
But hey, it’s just one rep. Maybe Williams looked better the rest of practice, right?

Not so much.
Another video, this one posted by Courtney Cronin of ESPN Radio Chicago, showed Williams and Moore working together in drills with no defenders. Yet again, Moore made a tough catch on a ball that Williams misplaced on his back shoulder.
“That’s getting picked off in a live game. Ball was thrown behind DJM,” one reply read.
Williams is aware of his accuracy troubles. He finished 28th in the league in QBR a year ago
“Yeah, it’s frustrating. I hate missing passes. Especially ones I’ve been pretty consistent on for a good amount of time,” he said last season. “That’s coming, the progress over the football season has been growing for myself – of routes, combinations of routes put together. Seeing all these different defenses, throwing all this footwork together. The progress has been on a steady trend upwards. I would say it is pretty frustrating missing some of these passes that I’ve missed.”
But that awareness only matters if the results improve. And if this is how he looks throwing in practice scenarios, it might well portend some more troubles when the actual games begin.
