Tomorrowland Festival Does Not Have A Solution After Massive Fire Completely Destroyed Main Stage

Tomorrowland Fire

Tomorrowland is planning to continue as scheduled after a fire completely destroyed the legendary electronic dance music festival’s main stage. I don’t know how that is going to happen.

This disastrous scenario left organizers scrambling for a solution with less than 24 hours prior to the start and that continues to be the case as hundreds of thousands of people start to arrive.

Tomorrowland, first held in 2005, began as a one-day event with a modest lineup and only a few thousand attendees. The iconic EDM festival very quickly grew to one of the biggest music festivals in the world with more than 400,000 people expected to attend over two weekends in 2025.

However, the main stage is completely gone.

The main stage at Tomorrowland went up in flames.

If you are not familiar with Tomorrowland, the main stage is more of an experience than a stage. It is a large, intricate build that is designed to transport festivalgoers into another world. The massive structure typically features all kinds of LED lights, moving attractions and often pyrotechnics. The lawn in front of the stage can fit a capacity of approximately 100,000.

Here is a look at the main stage from last year:

Here is a look at the main stage from this year, prior to the destruction:

The stage, which looked to be yeti-themed, started around 6:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday. A thick, grey and black smoke indicated an issue. The flames only escalated from there.

It is unclear as to how the fire began as of this writing. The world’s most iconic EDM festival has yet to determine a root cause.

Crisis (kind of) adverted!

One employee who had been working on the site described “an apocalyptic scene” as the stage burned. Construction was one day from completion. Four weeks of work were gone in a half an hour.

Tomorrowland Main Stage Fire Destruction Before After

Although it was a disaster, it actually could’ve been a lot worse. Firefighters were able to respond pretty quickly to prevent the flames from reaching the nearby woodland and neighboring homes. They were able to prevent a much bigger problem for the festival and the town of Boom, Belgium.

And because of the fast response, the fire was contained to just the main stage, so Tomorrowland is going to continue as scheduled. A plan has yet to be announced.

Is there a solution?

The main stage is completely gone but there are 14 other stages at the festival. They are all much smaller than the incinerated main stage but they are apparently big enough to make do.

Organizers worked through the night on a solution. Safety experts and members of local government met on early Thursday morning to discuss a contingency plan. Another meeting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. They are still trying to figure out what to do with less than 24 hours to go before the start.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of campers arrived to Tomorrowland on Thursday. The campsite is open and people are getting ready for what is going to be a wild weekend but the main stage no longer exists.
