A spectator on the Tour de France was hit by a car. It proves, once again, that people are idiots.
GET OUT OF THE WAY!
This kind of fan behavior continues to be an issue on the most famous race in cycling. There seems to be a new incident of this nature every few days and they are never the fault of the riders or their respective teams. The latest example is not the exception. Blame is placed only on the spectator.
Keep your head on a swivel!
The 2025 Tour de France course covers more than 2,000 miles over 21 stages in 23 days. Some of the stages take riders on the city streets of Lille Metropole, Bollene, Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy and Paris, among others. Others take them up the mountains of the Alps and Pyrenees mountains.
Stages that go through the bigger cities are typically well-protected. Barriers prevent fans from running out onto the course and security is there to get the morons who do break through. For example:

The same cannot be said for the mountains or the countryside. Tight, winding roads do not allow for a more structured system. Spectators line the streets without anything to separate them from the riders.
That often becomes an issue.
The Tour de France issued a statement at the beginning of this year’s race to ask fans to refrain from the use of smoke bombs and to not run alongside the riders. People didn’t listen.

For your own safety and that of the riders, do not use smoke bombs and do not run alongside the riders!

Riders barely escaped a disastrous wreck at the end of Stage 2 when spectators swarmed the streets. The corresponding video will make your heart race.
Fan behavior continues to be an issue.
No matter how hard the Tour de France tries, spectators do not listen. I don’t quite understand how the race organizers have not found a solution for crowd control beyond a post on social media but that is way above my pay grade.
Here is the latest warning from the Tour de France account in response to a flag-related incident:
It did not work.
A spectator got flipped by a support car on the Tour de France.
Stage 14 of the Tour took riders from Pau to Luchon-Superbagneres. They rode 113 miles with more than three miles of elevation gain in 40-50º temperatures with a constant mist and spitting rain.
As the riders and their support cars wound their way up the mountains, the fans did not adhere to the race’s request to stay out of the road. One spectator learned a very hard lesson.
He or she was cut down at the legs by the INEOS Grenadiers team car and flipped head over heels.

As unfortunate as it might be, the fan had it coming. Get out of the way or get run over! Literally.
