Following pressure from FCC chair Brendan Carr — “We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said — ABC made the decision to “indefinitely suspend” Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show. Kimmel is the second late night stalwart to be axed in recent months following Stephen Colbert and The Late Show‘s cancellation on CBS.
With Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel being pulled off the air, that leaves NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show as the last late night host standing in the traditional 11:30 p.m. EST slot.
While Colbert and Kimmel certainly had their detractors on both sides of the aisle, Fallon is arguably the most widely-disliked late night host due to his seeming lack of authenticity (fake laughter), celebrity-centric gimmicks and games, and the general toothlessness of his comedy.
Nevertheless, Jimmy Fallon currently finds himself as the last late night host standing, leading to equally hilarious yet depressing memes highlighting that fact.

Fallon and The Tonight Show may not be safe for long, either, as Trump called for NBC to cancel Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers, as well. A few months back, Trump also said he “heard Kimmel would be next” after Colbert was cancelled.

The news of Kimmel taken off the air came after the late night shows recorded their Wednesday, September 17 episodes, so expect the likes of Colbert, Meyers, and even Fallon to address it tonight.
