Utah Defensive Back’s Vicious Sucker Punch Sparks Debate Over Who Is To Blame For Heated Fight

Baylor Utah Football Fight Brawl Punch Ashtyn Hawkins Elijah Davis

Utah defensive back Elijah Davis got absolutely torched by Baylor wide receiver Kole Wilson during the college football contest in Waco on Saturday. He did not appreciate the disrespect from his opponent, which led him to throw a sucker punch at Ashtyn Hawkins.

A brawl ensued and both players were ejected.

Although this incident did not have a direct impact on the final score, because the Utes blew out the Bears, the two college football fanbases continue to point fingers at each other. Who started it?!

Utah threw the first punch at Baylor.

Wilson caught a touchdown with just over eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to cut into Utah’s lead. He beat Davis in one-on-one coverage on a jump ball to the corner of the end zone.

They both ended up on the ground.

As soon as Wilson got back to his feet, he stood over Davis and let him know who’s boss. Davis took obviously issue with what Wilson said. However, it was Hawkins who caught his wrath.

The 5-foot-10 wide receiver walked over to Davis (presumably with some choice words of his own) and Davis threw a punch. It might’ve been open-handed but it was a blow to the head.

Both players started throwing hands and Hawkins lost his helmet before they were separated.

Here is a clear look at how it all went down:

Big 12 officials reviewed the incident after things had calmed down. Both Elijah Davis and Ashtyn Hawkins were promptly ejected from the contest.

Kole Wilson was allowed to stay in the game.

Who is at fault for the brawl?

The answer to that question depends on who you ask.

Utah fans claim Wilson should’ve been flagged for taunting, which inspired Davis to loose his temper in the first place. They are not wrong. Wilson’s actions warranted a penalty.

However, there is no doubt that Davis threw the first punch. Baylor fans put the blame entirely on the defensive back and rightfully so. He got burned and felt embarrassed, which caused him to lose his cool.

One thing is for certain. No player on either team spat on the other. There is a theory floating around that Hawkins spat on Davis, which led Davis to throw his punch. That is not true.
