Academy Award nominated actor Timothee Chalamet has not been shy about his desire to be one of the greats and it’s beginning to rub people the wrong way.
Ever since his speech at the SAG Awards last year, which saw Timothee Chalamet say he’s just as inspired by great athletes as he is by great actors, the two-time Best Actor nominated star has been unabashed in his pursuit of glory.
For his role in Marty Supreme, Chalamet is expected to be nominated for his third Best Actor award. And according to the young star, Marty Supreme is just the latest in his string of “top-of-the-line performances” over the last “seven or eight years.”
“I don’t want people to take it for granted. I don’t want to take it for granted. This is really some top-level s—,” Chalamet said in a recent interview.
Because ambition and the pursuit of greatness makes most normies uncomfortable, though, Chalamet’s boast sparked an angry reaction online.
People on social media are angry at Timothee Chalamet for being confident in his acting abilities
“We bullied Bradley Cooper for less,” read one popular quote tweet.
“I feel so validated for hating on him years ago when everyone was fawning over him,” another added.
“He’s so annoyingly full of himself but if an actress said this it would be a week-long discourse with every insult under the sun,” a third bemoanded
“Leo should pull Timothee aside and tell him ‘Talented and successful celebrities are cooler when they don’t talk about themselves all the time.'”
“‘He’s playing a character’ Austin Butler spoke in his Elvis voice post production and ppl burnt him alive.”
“Manifesting he never wins an Oscar.”
The flip side of the argument, though is that Chalamet is merely showing the same mentality that’s commonly displayed in elite athletes, while also engaging in a bit of marketing performance art by portraying the same undying bravado that his character in Marty Supreme has.
It’s interesting that in sports everyone openly says “I’m gonna be the best, I want to win everything” – whereas the performing arts are a hugbox where it’s more common to have an Aww Shucks attitude and pretend you’re just lucky. People get mad if you violate the Aww Shucks. https://t.co/TjddNB1ocE

Marty Supreme, which is also expected to contend for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, will be released in movie theaters on Christmas Day.
