NFL Brings The Hammer Down On Atlanta Falcons DE James Pearce Despite Police Dropping Case

Aug 14, 2026; Atlanta, Georgia, USA; Atlanta Falcons linebacker James Pearce Jr. (27) warms up before a game against the Denver Broncos at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

While Atlanta Falcons defensive end James Pearce Jr. managed to avoid major legal repercussions for his alleged aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, he did not avoid punishment from the NFL.

The league handed Pearce an eight-game suspension to start the 2026-27 season on Thursday, claiming that he violated its personal conduct policy in his dealings with ex-girlfriend and WNBA star Rickea Jackson.

Pearce opted not to appeal the suspension, meaning the eight-game ban is final, according NFL spokesperson, Brian McCarthy.

James Pearce Jr. Made Rickea Jackson Fear For Her Life

Pearce, who was facing felony charges, entered into a pretrial intervention program and avoided any major legal trouble, including time behind bars.

But the alleged details of the incident are still damning.

Jackson, who ultimately dismissed her attempt to obtain a permanent restraining order against him, claimed that she feared for her life when Pearce attempted to run her off the road while driving in a white Lamborghini SUV.

The Chicago Sky star said in a legal filing that she believed “James will kill me” if the court did not intervene.

She also wrote that Pearce “verbally and physically abused me on more than one occasion” and threatened to kill, harm, and injure her and to place a bag over her head, per ESPN.

Jackson alleged that Pearce followed her in his vehicle as she drove home. She then called 911 and drove to a police station rather than her home “because I knew James was going to hurt me.” Jackson claims that Pearce chased after her at high speeds, blocked her with his car at a traffic light, and tried to enter the vehicle before jumping on top of it.

Even after reaching the police station, Pearce continued his alleged pursuit, even striking an officer with his vehicle in the process.

All told, it feels as if Pearce is getting off light here given the allegations. The first-round pick out of Tennessee had 10.5 sacks as a rookie for the Falcons a year ago.
