For all of the chatter surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles and their locker room culture, Jalen Hurts was willing to go to war for Saquon Barkley. His street cred saw a huge boost during the NFL playoffs on Sunday afternoon.
The 6-foot-1, 223-pound quarterback stood up to a defensive lineman who is more than 100 pounds heavier and three inches taller on behalf of his running back.
Green Bay committed an inexcusable unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the fourth quarter that, essentially, cost the Packers any chance at victory. Barkley took a handoff up the middle and was stuffed for no gain. However, the NFL defense continued to drive him backward beyond the initial line of scrimmage. They did not let up even though multiple whistles already indicated the end of the play.
Defensive tackle T.J. Slaton went too far. He shoved Barkley to the ground long after the play was dead and picked up a costly 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness.

Slaton is listed at 6-foot-4, 331 pounds, which might be understated. Philadelphia’s offensive line immediately ran over to Slaton after he threw Barkley down to give him a piece of their mind.
However, they were not the first responders!
Jalen Hurts was standing right there. He did not even hesitate to get up in the face of Slaton before his offensive line arrived to the scene.

There is a lot of chatter, seemingly every year, about the culture of the Eagles and how toxic it is in the locker room. This would indicate otherwise. Maybe something has changed over the last few months. Maybe it was never an issue to begin with.
Either way, Jalen Hurts was willing to fight one of the biggest defensive tackles in the NFL because he did wrong by Saquon Barkley— who has been on the team for less than a year. That goes a long way!
