It’s not particularly rare to see angry NASCAR drivers throw hands if someone feels they were disrespected on the track, but those melees tend to transpire after the race. However, a couple of Supercross riders couldn’t wait for theirs to wrap up before getting into a scrap and were subsequently suspended for sparking a chaotic scene in the middle of a qualifying trial.
Hockey is really the only sport where it’s not a huge surprise to see a fight break out during a game, but there are plenty of other athletes who won’t think twice about getting into it when tempers flare.
That’s certainly true in the world of motorsports; you don’t necessarily go to a race expecting to see a brawl, but if someone takes exception to something that unfolds on the track, it’s not a huge shock to see them hunt down the offending opponent on pit row in search of some frontier justice.
That brings us to what unfolded when the AMA Supercross Championship made its way to Anaheim over the weekend for a showdown that unfolded at Angels Stadium. A grand total of 60 riders in the 250 division were hoping to snag one of the 22 slots up for grabs in the main event in the third completion of the 2025 season—including Braden Spangle and Wyatt Mattson, who were two of the nearly two dozen riders that shared a group in the second qualifying round on Saturday.
Those participants had 10 minutes to record their fastest lap in the hopes of making the final cut, but Spangle and Mattson ultimately found themselves on the outside looking in after they were understandably disqualified for getting into a fight on the dirt during the race as officials waving caution flags did what they could to prevent them from getting run over by other riders.

It’s not entirely clear who started the brawl (which was captured from another angle at track level), although it seemingly stemmed from the two men colliding during a jump.
Neither man was expected to make the final race, but they were nonetheless officially barred from taking part in the event where Haiden Deegan earned first place and could face further discipline that bars them from future competitions.
