An 82-year-old man by the name of Domenic Stellato powered through a torrential downpour to win the best race at the Penn Relays. He continues to prove that age is just a number.
It was an exhilarating finish down the back stretch as three competitors battled it out at the line!
Stellato, a resident of Pennsylvania, competes in track and field with the Philadelphia Masters Track & Field Association. He might also represent the University of Toronto track club.
Regardless of his affiliation, Stellato made himself and his people very proud with a blazing fast time in the 100-meter event at the Penn Relays. Father time knows no limits!
The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, held annually since 1895 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field. More athletes run in the Penn Relays than any other track meet in the world with more than 15,000 participants. They travel to Philadelphia from all over North America and abroad, notably Jamaica. It is held over five days with more than 400 races.
The best race of the weekend takes place on Saturday afternoon with the Masters division of the 100-meter sprint for men 80 years of age or older. Stellato won with a time of 16.02 seconds (-1.0).
To make his time even more impressive, it was pouring rain!

Domenic Stellato did not get off to the best start but he really hit his stride around the 20-meter mark and started to pull away from the pack alongside two nearby opponents. The trio ran their way into a pretty big lead to set up a photo finish. Although the second-place finisher nearly passed him at the end, Stellato got a burst of speed right before the line to win. Electric would be an understatement.
