Ejected Aggies 1B Barred From Final Game Vs. Old Team After Reviving Bad Blood With Texas

Texas A&M first baseman Gavin Kash was ejected during Game 2 of a three-game set vs. Texas on Saturday. He will not be available for the Aggies on Sunday.

The suspension is a significant blow to Texas A&M as it loses a veteran presence with a .979 fielding percentage at a crucial spot in the infield.

The incident occurred in the seventh inning of play after Kash nearly left the ballpark. Used in a pinch-hit situation with his team trailing by a run, Kash drilled a 1-2 pitch from Thomas Burns that came close to tying the game.

It was, however, caught at the warning track to end the inning. As Kash exited the field, Texas centerfielder Will Gasparino yelled something in the hitter’s direction. A shouting match ensued.

Gavin Kash was ejected for his role in the spat. According to NCAA rule, “team personnel who leave their position to potentially participate in a verbal altercation or physical confrontation shall be ejected and suspended for one game.”

Kash took a step towards the Longhorns dugout before leaving the playing field. Gasparino was not ejected despite being viewed as the instigator.

“People trying to do too much,” said Aggies head coach Michael Earley. “Yes, [Kash] said something to them. It’s ridiculous. It wasn’t instigated by Kash at all. It was instigated by their centerfielder.”

Gavin Kash has history with Will Gasparino.

Prior to arriving at Texas A&M, the first baseman played at both Texas and Texas Tech. While a member of the Red Raiders’ baseball team, he was involved in a separate incident with Gasparino.

Gasparino grounded out in a 2024 meeting between Texas Tech and the Longhorns. He collided with Kash at first base after being thrown out. Those on the Red Raiders’ side believed it was an intentional and unnecessary act.

That bad blood continued into the 2025 season with Gavin Kash a member of a new team. He will not be able to play in what could be his final college baseball game against his former school.

Texas has taken both Games 1 and 2 in the rivalry series, which has incredible storylines outside of the Kash-Gasparino feud. Former Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle famously bailed for the Longhorns days after leading Texas A&M to a national championship appearance last year.

The treacherous move has had major impacts on both programs. The Ags entered the year as the preseason No. 1 team. They’ve since gone 24-18 after a 14-15 start.

The Longhorns, meanwhile, are the current No. 1 team in America. Texas is 36-5 and 18-2 in a loaded SEC. They’ll contend for the top postseason seed in the NCAA Tournament in their first year under Schlossnagle’s leadership.

The series finale could bring more fireworks as Texas A&M looks to salvage a win. They’ll be forced to do so without Gavin Kash.
