Two Primary Theories Emerge As The NFL Investigates Shedeur Sanders’ Gut-Wrenching Prank Call

There is currently no bigger story in sports than Shedeur Sanders and his free fall during the NFL Draft. The former Jackson State and Colorado quarterback dropped out of the fourth round on Saturday after getting fooled by a gut-wrenching prank call on Friday evening.

It was hard to watch.

Two primary theories have emerged about the unfortunate incident and the truth will soon come out. An spokesman for the National Football League announced on Sunday morning that it has opened an investigation into the cruel practical joke. “We will look into the matter,” a spokesperson told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.

Here’s the thing. Phone numbers are often made public. In many cases, you can find it on Google.

This is not one of those cases. Shedeur Sanders purchased a second private phone to be used only for the Draft process. He only gave that specific number to NFL personnel. Only general managers, coaches, scouts and staffers had the 10-digit combination.

And yet, somehow, some way, the controversial signal-caller received a call from a unknown person who claimed to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. The caller told him that he was going to be drafted with the organization’s next pick. Sanders was thrilled.

However, it turned out to be fake. The caller told Sanders that he would “have to wait a little longer,” offered a brief apology and hung up. Check it out:

Shedeur Sanders chose to take the high road but his lack of care still did not explain what happened. “Nobody had that number,” he said.

The NFL is going to find out what happened.

Who is responsible for the Shedeur Sanders prank call?

Two primary theories (which are currently nothing more than a hypothesis) have come to exist about what happened. They are both based on a video that appears to show the culprits on the other side of the call. Take a look:

The first theory is based on the guy wearing the grey hoodie. He bears a slight resemblance to Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son, Jax Ulbrich. His account on Instagram no longer exists, which led a lot of people on the internet to believe that he is guilty.

Jax Ulbrich Shedeur Sanders

However, the Falcons were not in the market for a quarterback. The defensive coordinator would not be the one to have the quarterback’s NFL Draft-specific phone number. Weird.

Plus, Ulbrich was enrolled at Berry College in Georgia last semester. The alleged prank-caller on the couch in the video was wearing the sweatshirt of a different school.

It is possible that he is an Ole Miss fan who attends Berry College so Ulbrich is not yet absolved. But there is another theory that relates more closely to the Rebels.

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen’s daughter, Sydney, attends the University of Mississippi. Her father spent a lot of time with Sanders during the pre-Draft process. The newest Cleveland Browns quarterback actually expressed his desire to play for the Giants. New York brought him to the Meadowlands for a private workout.

In the end, Schoen and the G-Men went with Jaxson Dart over Shedeur Sanders. The latter reportedly bombed his interview with the organization. Their meeting, at the very least, did not check the boxes.

Is it possible that Schoen’s daughter, a student at Ole Miss, was responsible for the leak of Sanders’ private phone number? We can’t rule it out.

These are just two of the many possibilities. There is no confirmed truth to either. Neither Jax Ulbrich nor Sydney Schoen are responsible for the prank call — yet. The NFL is on the case!
