Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott Sends Mixed Message About Hamstring After Surgery

Dak Prescott had perhaps the best season of his career in 2023 when he led the Dallas Cowboys to an NFC East title and finished second in NFL MVP voting. Prescott threw for over 4,500 yards, 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions to establish himself as one of the league’s top signal callers. But the 2024 season was the exact opposite, Prescott struggled mightily in eight games he played before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury that required surgery.

Now the Cowboys star is on the mend, and while it appears he’s working his way back to full health, it seems as if there’s a long way until he gets there.

“If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” Prescott said Friday at a local charity event. “It’s about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 [games] — whatever we get to when the time’s right.”

That seems encouraging. But Prescott also noted that at 31 years old, he realized he needs to take things a little more cautiously than he may have previously.

“I’m getting close to where I want to be. I don’t want to put a percentage on it,” he said. “I know we’ve got team activities coming up, imagine myself being involved in some sort if not all.

“Then again I just understand my age, what I’ve had, what I’ve went through, it’s about being my best in the fall. So I’m not rushing anything, but I’m where I want to be.”

The Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones don’t seem to be entirely convinced, either. Dallas recently went out and acquired potential future starter Joe Milton in a trade with the New England Patriots. Milton, 25, was once considered a top prospect and impressed in his lone start for the Patriots a year ago.

If Prescott can’t stay healthy in 2025, don’t be surprised if Jones and co. look to the future in Dallas.
