Coastal Carolina swept the college baseball season series against Clemson. A Chanticleers fan wearing a banana suit caused the Tigers to completely melt down with ruthless heckling on top of the bullpen.
It was an incredible scene in Conway!
Coastal first traveled to Clemson at the end of March and defeated the No. 3 team in college baseball by six runs on its own field. Tuesday served as the rematch on the backend of a home-and-home. The largest crowd in program history packed Brooks Stadium. 5,300 fans were in attendance for a top-15 matchup.

One particular section of the stadium creates a ruthless environment for the visitors. The away bullpen is located right in the middle of the general admission student section in left field. Coastal Carolina fans look down on the opposing pitchers as they warmup to get in the game.

Clemson was completely rattled. A video from Tuesday night shows a student wearing a banana suit and his friends giving a hard time to Tigers pitcher Michael Gillen. Gillen threw three-straight balls.

The visibly-rattled reliever entered the game just moments later and promptly gave up four earned runs. The Chanticleers above the bullpen got in his head. He completely fell apart.

Shoutout to the crowd in Conway. They were rowdy throughout all nine innings. The man in the banana suit should be attributed with a win. He and his friends singlehandedly caused Gillen’s collapse, which blew the game wide open for the Chants. It was a direct correlation and you cannot convince me otherwise. They say you play how you practice and Gillen was unable to practice because he could not get the hecklers out of his head. Those struggles then showed up on the mound.
