Caleb Williams is not shying away from the big, bad Detroit Lions. He wants all the smoke from the NFC champions and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The No. 1 overall pick from a year ago continued to chirp at the star wide receiver during an appearance on his podcast earlier this week.
Williams and St. Brown never played on the same team together at the same time. However, they both attended USC and run some of the same circles, which has led them to become friends in recent years. They stay in touch and often text back and forth.
One recent conversation (or lack thereof) led to a hilarious sequence of events. Caleb Williams received a text from someone pretending to be Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson regarding the head coaching job for the Chicago Bears. Except he didn’t know it was a prank.
Williams texted St. Brown to try and confirm Johnson’s phone number but St. Brown thought it was a joke and did not respond in a timely manner. His silence led Williams to fall victim to the practical joke.
Chicago’s superstar quarterback is extra motivated to beat Detroit in his next opportunity after the prank call from (not) Johnson. Williams told St. Brown to get ready because the Bears are coming for the Lions. The 23-year-old looks forward to this new rivalry between them.
Caleb Williams also texted Amon-Ra St. Brown after he was drafted into the league and told him to get ready for what was to come in 2024. He said Chicago was going to go 2-0 against Detroit.
That was not what happened. The Lions swept the Bears by a combined score of 57-37.
Will things be different in 2025? Will Johnson leave Motor City to become the next head coach in the Windy City?
None of that matters. Caleb Williams is ready. He wants all the smoke.
