TikTok is offically back. On Saturday night, TikTok shut down hours before it was set to be banned in the United States.
“Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now” read a prompt on the app.
The app shut down didn’t last long. On Sunday morning, President Trump vowed to sign an executive order on Monday that would give the United States and TikTok 90 days to come up with a solution.
“I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order,”
TikTok went on to thank Trump for his statement and vowed to turn the app back on.
“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”

Apparently, Trump wants a U.S. business to have a 50 percent ownership stake in TikTok.
“I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up,” said Trump in a statement.

It’s currently unclear if TikTok would be willing to give up a 50 percent ownership share to keep TikTok alive.
